Chris Benjamin, Worship Pastor

Who makes up your family?
My wife Dolly, our cats and our lazy presa canario. (That's our dog.) My parents and my older sister still live in Pennsylvania.

Where did you grow up?
Just outside of northeast Philadelphia.

How did you become a Christian?
I was raised Lutheran and grew up in the church. At an early age I knew Jesus as truth but it wasn't until I was 15 years old that I gave my life to Him. I started going to a non denominational church in Philly with some friends of mine. This is when I finally started seeing my relationship with Christ as a personal one and not just repetitious prayer. It was actually during a small Third Day show at a local church when I first felt the Holy Spirit. I truly felt God's love for me and wanted to do everything I could to grow closer to Him.

What music are you listening to?
I grew up listening to a lot of old school punk. I still enjoy it like a candy bar but I've broadened my taste. I am currently listening to Social Distortion, Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, Wilco, Ryan Adams, The Fratellis, Needtobreathe, Leeland... I love me some Jesus Culture!

What is your favorite movie?
Nightmare before Christmas or the Godfather

What's your favorite restaurant?
There is this little restaurant just outside of Orlando where I went to college. It's a dinner and small cinema theatre that plays a lot of indie films. It just had the coolest atmosphere and good food. I think it was called the Aloma Cinema Grill.

What do you do for fun?
If I'm not playing music, I am bicycling or riding motocross (Still learning though) I like things with two wheels. I also love fishing with my wife. I love boats but not the ocean.

What is one thing most people may not know about you?

I am absolutely terrified of bees and wasps! Seriously, I sometimes wonder why God couldn't have found another way to pollinate.

What about Bethany gets you excited?
Everyone around here is so real. When I was younger and around churchy people I sometimes wondered if I was a real Christian. I never fit in being myself before. At Bethany, what you see is what you get. We don't put on our church personalities for show on Sundays. We are who we are and everyone is so loving and excepting of everyone, faults and all. Bethany has made the word of God so relevant in today's society. This is why I feel people are really starting to get a hold what God has in store for us.
